OUR STORY
Foundation For Good was founded on 23 February 2021 by Fraser Neill, David Neill, and Robert Snaith, following several years of grassroots community work that began long before we became a registered charity. Since then, our Trustee board has grown alongside the organisation.
Our journey started in 2018 as a small, non-incorporated, not-for-profit Amateur Boxing Club. What began as a place to train quickly became something much more. We saw how boxing could transform confidence, discipline, mental health, and a sense of belonging—particularly for individuals who had struggled within traditional systems. Strong relationships formed, trust grew, and the demand for support increased rapidly.
By 2018, we were welcoming over 40 people per session, despite operating across multiple temporary venues for more than a year. During this time, all activity was self-funded, often at significant personal and financial sacrifice, driven by a belief that the work mattered and needed to continue. It became clear that our community needed more than just a boxing club.
In 2019, growth accelerated. We registered new coaches, strengthened our presence across the North East boxing network, and began expanding our vision beyond sport alone. Toward the end of the year, we identified an old, dilapidated building in the heart of Consett—a space with enormous potential but in serious disrepair.
Taking on that building marked a defining moment. Through determination, long hours, and relentless effort, we began transforming it into a safe, usable community space—often while continuing to deliver vital services at the same time. That building became the foundation for everything that followed: a hub for wellbeing, food support, education, and connection.
From its grassroots beginnings, Foundation For Good has evolved into a multi-service community charity that now supports thousands of individuals every year, responding where traditional systems fall short. What started with boxing has grown into a people-first organisation rooted in lived experience, practical action, and deep community trust.
Today, Foundation For Good continues to grow and evolve, guided by the same values it was built on: putting people first, restoring dignity, and creating lasting impact for individuals and communities alike.
Together, we are stronger.
Foundation For Good understands that more cohesive communities foster better health outcomes. We look to bring the community together, we offer a wide range of activities to boost local people in our communities by breaking down barriers which stop people from progressing in life.
"Happier, Healthier and More Cohesive Communities."
